Playing with your children outside doesn’t have to be expensive or even take up a lot of space. In fact,
there are many fun outdoor activities that can be done with toys or equipment you have lying around, and
some do not take any equipment at all.
If your kids complain about being bored this weekend, challenge them to a game of basketball or croquet.
The result is some exercise that is actually fun and part of family bonding time.
Field Day: Invite over friends, neighbors, and extended family and host a Field Day. Have tug of
war, sack races, capture the flag, three-legged races, and other fun events that are normally at
children’s Field Days at school.
Yard Games: These can usually be made or purchased at stores like Target, Dick’s Sporting
Goods, and Wal-Mart. If treated right, yard game sets can last for many years. Popular (and
classic) options include: croquet, bocce ball, washers, and ladder golf.
Pool: If you have a private, public, or community pool, spend an afternoon playing pool games, such as volleyball, swimming contests, marco polo, and more.
Hiking, Biking, and Walking: These are all great ideas and most can even be done after a meal.Take a walk after dinner a regular family tradition for an easy way to stay active and up-to-date with everyone’s day.
Organized Sports: This is another fun idea that calls for inviting over neighbors, family, andfriends. Split into teams and play soccer, basketball, and football for a few hours. And stay in the shade when possible.Take a lot of breaks and don’t over exert yourselves!
